Live Edge Sawing

Last week was a busy week at the sawmill. I finally got around to sawing up some logs that have been in our yard most of the summer. Although most of my sawing has been dedicated to sawing grade lumber, we have had quite a few request for live edge. So most of the bolts we cut was live edge. The saw we have is a LT=50 Woodmiser with the standard cut. It is a great saw for cutting grade lumber but for the job of cutting live edge I really wish I hade the wide modal. My saw has a cross cut capacity of 28” and I think the wide modals cut 34”. That 6” of extra capacity would really come in handy when you are cutting live edge. Monday and Tuesday we cut then the rest of the week we were back to making moldings.

Next week we plan to get some better lighting in the work area of the shop and get a little insulation around the big sliding doors before the cold weather gets here. I also want to finally get my router sled finished so we can start to flatten some slabs. Check in next time to see how we did.
