A Lifelong Journey Working with Wood.
Our story
My name is Sean. I have been a part time woodworker for about 40 years. I love working with wood. I guess my love of wood started at a very young age when my dad would take my brother and I to the bush to cut firewood. I loved walking in the bush and looking up and seeing the canopy of the trees swaying in the wind. I also loved the smell of the fresh cut firewood my dad used to cut for our winter heat.
When I was about 11 years old, I set up a small spot in our old barn as my first little workshop. An old dull hand plane, a hammer, a small chisel, and a few rusty nails was about the extent of that shop. But about 3 years later I moved to the old Grainery in the barn, I ended up getting a skill saw with a trim tramp a router and a cordless drill and I was on my way. Over the years I was always tried to better my tools, shop space and skills as a woodworker.
I always desired to make woodworking my full-time occupation however up to this point for various reasons this has not been the case. However about 3 years ago I purchased a LT-50 Wood-Miser and decided to open a sawmill and millwork business. It has been a very busy three years, still working fulltime as a shift worker and setting this business up has been challenging but a great experience.
It was 2020 when we broke ground on our new shop. It started out as a farm machinery shed that housed my sawmill, however it did not take long for the sawmill business to take the priority of space in the shop. In 2023 we decided to move the woodworking shop to the sawmill. Now the total 96 x 50 shed is dedicated to the sawmill and woodworking business.
If you are in the market for hardwood I ask you to come out and visit us here at Cherished Tree Sawmill, your business will be much appreciated.

What’s in a name?
Our name Cherished Tree has two meanings for me. The name does reflect the love I have for the wood I work with. All processes associate with building fine wood products I respect. From the careful selection of the trees I choose to cut down (I selected dead or dying trees that will keep the other trees in or bush healthy). to the cutting and drying of the lumber we produce. To the final finish we put on our projects.
However, the greater and much more import meaning of our name is to honor the fact that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ died on the wood of a tree to save us from our sins. Jesus left us with two great commandments.
“Love the Lord God with all thy whole heart and thy whole soul and with thy whole mind”.
“Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself ”.
Matt. 22 36-39
