The Sawmill:
Not all sawmills are created equal. When you are looking for a sawmill to cut your lumber be sure to enquire about the sawmill they are operating. The hourly rate people quote you, might sound good but if they pull in with a manual mill or a smaller hydraulic mill the time it will take to produce the same lumber we can will be considerably longer.
Our Wood-Mizer LT-50 is one of the highest production portable sawmills on the market today. It will produce twice as much lumber then a manual mill in the same time and approx. 40% more then many other hydraulic sawmills.
That “cheap” hourly rate can quickly turn into a high cost per board foot if they don’t have a high production sawmill.
Wood-Mizer is the benchmark when it comes to portable sawing. They are known for there accuracy and quality of cut
Our Wood-Mizer Sawmill is rated to cut 21’ long and a 36” diameter log (log needs to be very straight to achieve a 36” diameter cut, 33” is often more realistic) with a 28” cross cut capacity.
Setup & Milage
Unlike many other portable sawyers we do not charge a separate fee to set the mill up. The set up of the mill will be part of our regular hourly rate.
Our milage rate is taken off the Canadian Revenue site, currently it is at $0.70 per km. All the km’s driven to complete this job will be totaled then added to the invoice.
The time we spend to travel to your location is charged out at $25.00 per 30 min increment for each person we bring to the job.
Sawmilling Rates:
We charge by the hour. Our rate is $110.00 / hour to saw at our location. To bring the saw to you and saw at your location is $135.00 per hour for 1 Sawmill Operator and the Wood-Mizer LT-50 high production sawmill.
We are there to saw the logs you provide for us. It will be the responsibility of the customer to provide the labor to feed the logs to the saw and off load the lumber from the sawmill. If the customer is unable to provide the labor. Cherished Tree Sawmill will load and off load the saw. Depending on the job this could mean no extra men needed to 1 or 2 extra men. A tractor and loader also may be needed to move logs and lumber.
Extra man if needed = $30.00 / hr. / man
Tractor and loader if needed = $175.00 / day (plus the milage)
The hourly rate is started when we start setting up the Sawmill and stops when the saw is packed up and ready to leave. (less the 1/2 hr. taken for lunch)
We have a min charge of 3 hrs.
Please note we have a sawing season that typically runs from approx. Apr to early Nov. Log do not saw well when they start to freeze and we do not want the saw on the roads when they are full of salt. So we take the winter to do a full maintenance check on the saw and work in the mill shop.
Saw blades
Saw blades will typically be changed around 500 bf or when needed. We do not charge for blades that occur normal ware. However, if the blade hits metal, stones or excessively dirty logs a $35.00 charge will be applied for each blade change.
Hours of Work
In most cases we strive to start at 9 am and end at 4:30 pm with a 1/2 hr. lunch. This schedule may be altered a bit due to travel time.
Please understand that our day extends beyond the time of our last cut. We have to clean up, in many cases pack the saw up, travel home then we have to grease and fuel the mill. Then the saw blades we used that day need to be set and sharpened. I say this here so people can understand why we stop sawing around 4:30 pm.
Multiple day jobs
If a multi day job is required, the customer will be invoiced at the end of Day 2 and will be invoiced at every 2 day interval after that. Payment will be required at the time of invoicing. Cash, credit, debit, e-transfer can be accepted as payment means also in some cases cheques will be accepted.
If the job is greater than 2 hrs. from the base the customer will be billed for lodging plus $35.00 per diem / day per person.
Payment
Other than what was stated in the multiple day section. Payment will be due before the sawmill leaves your site. Cash, credit, debit, e-transfer can be accepted as payment means also in some cases cheques will be accepted. .
Please read and understand the charges on this page. It is best to have a good idea of what the total cost will be before starting the job.
We also in some cases offer Kiln drying services if you would like more information on that please click below.
